Principal's Message

Welcome All,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. Last school year was a most successful one. Last year 70% of the seniors that were enrolled at Chavez earned their high school diploma.  In addition to graduating 70% of the seniors we also increased our attendance rate, doubled the number of students meeting and nearly meeting standards in English Language Arts, and we successfully opened three satellite campuses. As great as the last school year was for Chavez, the 2017-18 school year has the potential to be even better.

We will continue to build on our successes.  For the 2017-2018 school year we have added elective courses and intervention classes:

  • Poetry/spoken word
  • Art classes through Artworx LA
  • Intervention classes including:
    • Time Management
    • Money Management
    • Employment Skills
    • Violence and Conflict Resolution
    • Substance Abuse
    • Anger Management

In 2015 Chavez High School earned a six-year WASC accreditation. On November 13th and 14th we will conduct our WASC mid-cycle review.  Since we received our last accreditation our teachers have participated in numerous professional developments so that they are equipped to provide our student population with the tools necessary to succeed.  The purpose of the review is to ensure that all of our staff are providing an environment that is conducive to learning and that students are continuing to perform at their highest academic levels.

I am looking forward to another amazing school year in service to our students, parents and community.

Best to you all,

Laura Brown
